Following Auburn’s impressive 99-81 victory over Alabama, head coach Bruce Pearl expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly highlighting the dominance of Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome in the paint.
“We had an advantage on the inside, obviously, with Jaylin Williams and Johni Broome, and we got that ball. We were able to handle any of their perimeter pressure,” said Pearl.
Williams, scoring a career-high 26 points, and Broome, contributing 24 points, played pivotal roles in leading the Tigers to victory, allowing them to secure a tie atop the SEC standings.
The win was particularly satisfying for Auburn after their narrow loss to Alabama earlier in the season, which had ended their impressive 11-game winning streak. This time, Auburn asserted control early, establishing a commanding 14-point lead by halftime and maintaining it throughout the game.
Reflecting on the team’s defensive effort, Coach Pearl commended his players for their exceptional performance on that end of the floor.
“Defensively, I thought the kids did a phenomenal job,” said Pearl.
While Coach Pearl was undoubtedly pleased with the outcome of the game, he also expressed his admiration for the incredible turnout of fans at the arena.
“The crowd was amazing, the environment was tremendous,” he remarked. “ESPN goes to a lot of great buildings, a lot of sellout crowds. This place is different.”
The passionate support from the fans undoubtedly contributed to the electrifying atmosphere of the game and played a significant role in motivating the players to secure a crucial victory.
Overall, Auburn’s impressive win over Alabama showcased their strength as a team and their resilience in bouncing back from previous setbacks, setting the stage for an exciting continuation of their season in the competitive SEC.
