A poignant drama film – in Spanish – about love, loss, and self-discovery. A newly single novelist, set against the beautiful Moroccan landscape, helps us understand Ana, Ana’s new companion Nizar, who is navigating his personal journey.

She comes to Morocco, hoping that the solitude of a writers’ retreat will comfort her and inspire her, after a breakup that has shaken her. Here, she encounters a young Nizar rethinking his choices. He is considerably younger than she is but, within days, Ana finds comfort in Nizar’s genuine presence.

The series of adventures Ana and Nizar set on make them go to the hidden gems of the Moroccan countryside, while they face their personal demons, so learn from their lives about love, loss, and living in the present.

A special strong point of Lonely Planet would be its cinematography. One would see the beautifully shot film footage of Morocco’s landscapes, from great and noisiy cities to serene country landscapes. It is a feast for the eyes and, therefore added depth and richness to the storytelling.

The performances from the lead actors are specially creditable as well. Ana and Nizar are played with quite sensible nuances so that one can feel connected to his or her respective character. There was such strong chemistry between these two lead actors that their relationship was genuine, touching, and heartwarming.

Lonely Planet is a movie that will leave you sad long after the credits roll. Indeed, it is a lovely and inspiring story reminding every one about the humanity necessary in human interaction and the power of understanding and learning for oneself.
