Tom Hanks has remained a beloved performer in America despite his recent performances in Elvis and Pinocchio. But we will all have to wait a few more weeks before we see him again on the big screen. The release date of Tom Hanks’ next movie, A Man Called Otto, has been delayed from early December to January 13, 2023, for a general audience.
The movie is based on Swedish novelist Fredrik Backman’s “A Man Called Ove,” which reached the top of the New York Times bestseller list. Hanks will play Otto, a cranky old guy who enjoys passing judgment on and being nasty to his neighbors, in the movie. Otto’s strong façade, nevertheless, starts to crack as a strange bond forms with Marisol, a new neighbor who moves in next door with her young family and is “quite pregnant.”
Mariana Trevio, Rachel Keller, Cameron Britton, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo appear in the movie with Tom Hanks. Mexican stage and screen actress Trevio most recently acted in the Spanish-language Netflix series Once Upon a Time… But Not Anymore. She has made several appearances in Mexican movies. Recently, Keller co-featured in the HBO Max series Tokyo Vice. Keller has starred in a number of critically acclaimed series, including Fargo and Legion. In David Fincher’s Mindhunter, Britton had his breakthrough performance as American serial murderer Edmund Kemper. Additionally, he has made appearances in popular TV shows including Barry, The Umbrella Academy, and Shrill. In addition to appearing in blockbuster movies like Sicario: Day of the Soldado, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Magnificent Seven, Garcia-Rulfo most recently acted in the Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer.
Marc Forster is in charge of the direction of David Magee’s movie adaptation of Backman’s A Man Called Otto. Forster is a BAFTA-nominated filmmaker best known for producing The Kite Runner, Finding Neverland, and Monster’s Ball. Magee has received two Academy Award nominations, one each for Finding Neverland and Life of Pi. He has also written additional films including Mary Poppins Returns, the forthcoming Netflix picture The School for Good and Evil, and the impending Disney live-action adaptation The Little Mermaid. Hanks, Rita Wilson, Gary Goetzman, and Fredrik Wikström Nicastro are the producers of A Man Called Otto. Executive producers include David Magee, Renée Wolfe, and Forster.
On December 25, a limited edition of A Man Called Otto will be released in New York and Los Angeles; this will be followed on January 13 by a general release. For any further information on the impending movie, keep checking The UBJ.
