Amazon Studios promise an accurate adaptation of the God of War franchise. God of War is based on a David Jaffe-made video game franchise for Sony. Players take control of Kratos, a Spartan soldier betrayed by Ares, and set out on a journey of vengeance, ultimately becoming the new God of War in Greek mythology. The franchise started in 2005. Kratos and his son Atreus are currently in Norway on a new quest rooted in Norse mythology as part of the series’ self-titled reboot from 2018.
Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon Studios, gave an interview to Collider after the company revealed a new show based on the God of War property. The show will be anchored by emotional stakes inside its epic plot, which is expected to primarily focus on the Norse mythology themes from the later games and make Kratos and Atreus’ relationship a central theme. The God of War series will also be “very loyal to the source material,” according to Sanders. Below are Sanders’ thoughts on God of War:
“At the center of it all is this story of fathers and sons, and families, set against this giant epic landscape. So what Rafe [Judkins] (showrunner) and Mark [Fergus] and Hawk [Ostby] (writers) have come up with for the first season, and for the series, I think, is both incredibly true to the source material, and also compelling on its own. If you never played the game, you will fall in love with the show and feel very much invited in. So we think it’s going to be huge.”
What to Expect From the God of War Series on Amazon
Viewers of the God of War series have already been given the assurance that Norse mythology would be emphasized in the franchise’s next games. Players may be familiar with Kratos’ tale of betrayal at the hands of Ares, although that narrative element may not be included at all or may just be referenced briefly to illustrate the character’s current situation. However, God of War still offers epic fights and stunning settings that have made the game famous to fans.
Focusing on God of War’s subsequent usage of Norse mythology enables the series to leave its modest origins and go on a vast scale. When Kratos’ wife Faye passes away, he and his son Atreus will probably set off on a mission to carry out her last request that her ashes be scattered upon the highest peak in the nine realms, Jötunheim. As they travel together, Kratos and Atreus will get to know one another better and discover Faye’s history as well as Atreus’ actual identity.
There are still a lot of God of War’s development-related secrets to be revealed, including casting. The series’ roster has not yet been revealed, but performers like Gerard Butler, Dave Bautista, or even Christopher Judge, who voices the role and has a similarly imposing build, might play the formidable Kratos. Despite the lack of specifics, God of War appears to be an intriguing series for viewers to follow.
