As a reality television star, Dakota Fred faced criticism for allegedly stealing a claim in Porcupine Creek. In a notorious episode, the co-owner of Thrill of the Hunt Entertainment claimed that he was “portrayed as the most despicable character ever” after appearing to kick miners off the claim.

In a Facebook post from March, he claimed, “That totally fictional presentation created fear and devastated in my life for years.” I endured hundreds of death threats, the most vile remarks you can think of, and attacks on my reputation. After a two-year investigation, the FBI came to the conclusion that I was in danger. As proof, twelve years later, people are still talking on how I messed up with the Hoffmans and how they can never trust me.

He continued recording his series ‘to convince individuals that I was a serious and responsible miner, not the villainous claim jumper wrongly represented on TV’, even though he had stated that he intended to write a book to explain what had happened. He said that his “interesting and adventurous life well lived” would also be highlighted in the biography.

“I’ve had an exciting life for all 80 of it. When he received the grim cancer news, he added, “If I survive this, I’ll have another adventure to share with you people.
