Country: South Korea

It is set in a tumultuous time of the Joseon Dynasty. There are wars, conflicts, and new philosophies’ rise within and outside of the country. Two great friends who were once inseparable are now caught in such turbulent drifts of occurrences. His faith and allegiance to his homeland set them both on a path to hardship.

Its representation of the Joseon political landscape is complex; it reveals in detail the power struggles among the different factions and the effects of those struggles on ordinary people’s lives and, on a personal level, in terms of the sacrifices individuals make to achieve their ideals.

Powerful performances stand out as one of the brightest features of Uprising. The two lead performers made compelling portrayals of their characters, delivering enough emotion and complexity from the relationship between them. Good support performance enhances the depth and richness of the story.

The cinematography has been exceptional, mostly in capturing the grandeur of the Joseon Dynasty. Production design has also been in fine detail to create an honest and realistic world through which the audience inhabits.

Uprising is an exciting and moving film giving valuable insight into Korea’s history. A totally powerful drama that will leave long after the credits have rolled.
