The news of Jones’ passing was confirmed through a heartfelt statement shared on his Instagram account on February 28. Describing him as the “Meatsauce God” and a “Wrestling Superstar,” the post conveyed the deep sadness felt by friends and fans alike. Wrestling referee Mark Charles III also confirmed the news on Facebook, urging prayers for Jones and his family while expressing the hope for his memory to be eternal.

While the exact cause of his passing was not disclosed, Jones had battled health issues in recent years. In 2022, he revealed his diagnosis of early-stage dementia and disclosed that he had suffered two strokes, shedding light on the challenges he faced outside the ring.

Jones’ wrestling career spanned several decades, marked by memorable moments and iconic matches. He made his professional debut in 1987, teaming up with Rocky Johnson as Soul Train Jones in the AWA Southern Tag Team Championship. However, it was his persona as Virgil that truly propelled him into the spotlight when he joined the WWE as the bodyguard of Ted “Million Dollar Man” DiBiase.

His journey in the WWE saw him transition through various personas, including the New World Order (nWo) wrestler Vincent, before returning to his iconic role as Virgil.
